Company History Sub Panel
STEM Applications started in 1991 as a part time software support company while Steve carried on duties as supervisor of electrical services at Continental Can in Edmonton. In 1992, we became a full time traveling automation contractor when the plant that Steve was working in shutdown and automation project opportunities became available.
From 1992 to 2013 STEM Applications worked on over 50 installation, maintenance and rebuild projects from small continuous process improvement to multi-line greenfield projects domestically and internationally.
In 2013 STEM Applications took a hiatus while Steve took on the care of automation and electrical services for the Weatherford COROD facilities in Edmonton and Bakersfield. In 2015, as a result of the oil price crash Steve moved to Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Supervision duties at Champion Petfoods in Morinville.
But customers kept calling and the decision was made in 2018 to go back to STEM Applications in August of that year. With more customers outsourcing, and despite record unemployment in the Alberta oilfield since 2014, finding experienced and dedicated manufacturing process and machinery control system experts is still very difficult. To improve our visibility to customers, since August of 2019 STEM Applications has adopted the trade name "FactoryAutomationPros" so that existing and potential customers can easily identify what our company mission is.
